Before you start
One image at a time, up to 15 MiB, 12 million pixels and 8,192px per side. GIF, SVG, HEIC and animated PNG/WebP are unsupported. Devices may run out of memory below these limits.
Keeps proportions and only scales down. JPEG fills transparent pixels with your background color. PNG has no quality control. Smaller files, lossless output and a target file size are not guaranteed.
The browser applies JPEG EXIF orientation before Canvas re-encoding. PNG/WebP containing EXIF are unsupported because orientation handling varies. Original EXIF/GPS metadata is not copied; colors and quality may change. Keep your original file separately.
This tool processes images inside this page’s browser. File data is not included in this tool’s network requests. See the privacy policy for general site requests and advertising.
Frequently asked questions
Will the file always be smaller?
No. An already optimized original can grow after re-encoding, especially when saved as PNG. Compare actual sizes and try reducing dimensions or quality.
